About me

Hi, I'm Alysha the woman behind Hippy Dippy Doula

Thanks for being here 🤍 I’m so glad you’re curious about who I am and why I do this work.

I’m a birth and postpartum doula, mother, and lifelong student of women’s health, traditional care, and the transition into motherhood. I’m passionate about helping women feel informed, confident, connected to their bodies, and deeply cared for through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

My journey into doula work began with my own experience becoming a mother.

Before this work, I was a hairstylist by trade something I had dreamed of becoming since I was a teenager. In my early 20s, after years of navigating the medical system, I was told I would likely never have children without significant medical intervention.

Then, in 2020, just ten days after having my IUD removed, I found out I was pregnant.

My pregnancy and postpartum experience changed me. I struggled physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout pregnancy and became deeply disconnected from my body. I ultimately chose a planned cesarean because I had lost trust in my body and felt terrified of birth.

Postpartum was incredibly difficult. I was recovering from major abdominal surgery while caring for a newborn during a pandemic, with limited support and an experience in hospital where I felt overlooked and uncared for.

Looking back, I know how desperately I needed someone in my corner.

Someone to educate me, to remind me I wasn’t broken, to care for me also.

That experience became the beginning of a completely different path.

In 2023, I completed my birth and postpartum doula training and began building the kind of support system I wish I had during my own transition into motherhood. Since then, I’ve continued my education in holistic birth, traditional ayurvedic postpartum care, and other supportive modalities so that I can offer mothers care that looks beyond simply getting through birth and "bouncing back" in postpartum.

My work is deeply rooted in the belief that postpartum is not an afterthought. Mothers deserve nourishment, rest, practical support, emotional care, and time to recover and integrate after bringing life into the world.

I’m especially passionate about traditional postpartum practices and the Ayurvedic approach to the sacred postpartum window a period of deep rest, nourishment, warmth, connection, and restoration. But birth and postpartum care aren’t about following one perfect formula.

My role is to meet each mother where she is, help her understand her options, advocate for her wishes, and create space for her to feel safe, supported, and held.

I serve mothers because I know what it feels like to need a village and not have one, I know what it feels like to question your body and I know how transformative it can be when someone finally says, “I’ve got you.” Today, I get to be that person for other mothers.

My hope is that every woman I support leaves her experience feeling more connected to herself, more confident in her body, more informed about her choices, and reminded that she deserves care, too.

Because we were never meant to do motherhood alone. 🤍
